CBD Products: Why Everyone Is Talking About Them

Everyone has heard the term “cannabis.” Marijuana and hemp are buzzwords that get thrown around these days in a very confusing state. Cannabis is actually a genus of plants, not just one plant. There are hundreds of different kinds of cannabis plants with more than 400 compounds found in them! CBD is one compound found in cannabis, but for this post we’ll focus on Hollyweed CBD products because they’re the most common and what everyone is talking about these days.

CBD Products: why everyone is talking about them

Ever since Colorado legalized marijuana for recreational purposes, there’s been a lot of talk about cannabis oils and its benefits for people suffering from chronic illnesses like epilepsy, cancer, or chronic pain. But what is CBD? Is it the same as medical marijuana?

CBD is a chemical compound found in Cannabis plants. It’s non-psychoactive and has a different molecular structure than THC, which is another chemical compound found in cannabis plants. According to LeafScience.com, CBD does not cause the “high” associated with marijuana because it does not act on the same pathways in your brain as THC. It is possible to get CBD from marijuana, but you’d have to smoke or ingest a bunch of marijuana leaves and buds for any significant effects (which would be unpleasant).

Cannabis oil is made from cannabis plants and it is sold in different forms:

There are many types of CBD products available, including oils, tinctures, edibles, and more. Much of the CBD oil on the market today comes from hemp plants , which have low levels of THC but high level of CBD. There are a lot of types of hemp plants, but hemp with very low levels of THC is what’s known as industrial hemp. Hemp is used for its fiber and seeds in many products like paper pulp and food products . But there are always exceptions! Some companies make medical marijuana extracts from strains that have higher CBD content than other strains.

But I thought all marijuana was high in THC?

The word “marijuana” is used to describe the leaves, flowers, stems and seeds of the cannabis plant. The Government classifies marijuana as a schedule 1 drug which means it has a very high potential for abuse and no accepted medical use. However, there are now dozens of states that have legalized marijuana for medicinal use. So yes, all hemp plants fall under the category of “marijuana” by the Government’s standards. However, hemp is not psychoactive and you can’t get “high”. The only way to take advantage of CBD’s therapeutic effects is to ingest the CBD in some form (oil, tincture), not by smoking it.
